Composition of Layers
Wood-look LVF is made of vinyl while stone-look LVF often has a base layer that contains minerals such as limestone. Both traditional and luxury vinyl floors usually have four layers, but LVF layers are thicker. From bottom to top, LVF consists of the following layers:
- Backing layer - comprises 90% of the product's thickness; provides solidity and structure
- Design layer - realistic print of wood or stone
- Clear film - protects against rips, tears, and other damage
- Aluminum oxide - prevents light scratching and shoe scuffs
Advantages of LVF
LVF planks and tiles are about 1/8" thick while regular vinyl flooring is much thinner. This floor covering is extremely resistant to dents, scratches, and stains. It is also water-resistant so mold and mildew are not a problem. Some manufacturers feature products with built-in soundproofing. If you like the look of wood or stone but not the price, LVF is a good alternative. The floor is both low maintenance and easy to clean.
