There are three common options, including binding, for finishing the edges of an area carpet. The preferable stitch is dependent upon a homeowner?s preference or the type of fibers that make up the carpet. Serging, also known as overlock stitching, results in a higher-end look than binding. It is a stitch that is often used on area rugs that are manufactured. If you examine a serged edge, you?ll see a thick fiber that looks like it has been hand-sewn. Fringing looks good, but it has no practical purpose on machine-made rugs. Fringing is the most expensive while binding is the least expensive stitch.?
